good morning type.liters! today, another installment of culinary cravings. we’ve been inspired by strawberries lately, at the farmer’s market, grocery store and of course all over the web. so they are the perfect subject for today and hopefully this post will keep you satisfied throughout strawberry season.

you can’t have strawberries without shortcake, so how about a fun twist by adding almonds? we can’t forget strawberry iced tea or macarons for our sweet tooth and to include something closer to the savory side: a quinoa, spinach and strawberry salad. try one or a few of these and let us know what your favorites are. enjoy!

we’re excited to introduce a new segment to our blog this week: spotlite. here, we’ll be giving you an extra special look behind some of our favorite companies. we’re so happy to be doing what we’re doing and to be supported by the best of our peers, this is our way of sharing a little something about them with you.

today, we are featuring genuine haha, and the creative mastermind behind it, tony bui. we go way back with tony, since our first stompings at san jose state and now to the craft fair scene. in the last several months, we’ve witnessed tony’s genius translate through his hilarious and sentimental card line. his illustrations of fun-loving characters paired with his unique personality and wit are bringing a brand new voice to greeting cards. here’s what he had to say to type.lites about his beloved, genuine haha.

how/when did you start genuine haha?
The idea started when people started complimenting my Facebook birthday wishes and saying how funny they were. I liked the idea of combining my humor with a whimsical illustration sense to create a different type of greeting card which was intended to be cute and boisterous. I started designing and concepting the cards early in 2011 but we officially became a business as of August 2011.

where do you come up with your ideas/concepts?
They are all based on life experiences from myself, family and mostly drunk friends.

there are many nights when the type.lites team is working in the late hours and all we want is to crawl into our beds and doze off into next week. but still, we burn the midnight oil (harhar) because we love what we do and we love sharing with our fans all the things that are going on in our world. so, often, when we are dreaming about going to bed, we are also just dreaming of being in bed, propped up next to some nightstands like these.

suitcases / cheesebox / hexagon / steps / ladder / wood

talk about some simple and genius ways to dress up your bedside! you’ve probably noticed our obsession with suitcases if you’ve been to any of our shows (e.g. here and here). so suitcases as a nightstand? we’re in! and probably enough said with the ladder too… but what about infusing geometric shapes and organic materials to the bedroom? these are also great ways to shelve your bedside reading, glasses and perhaps a fragrant candle or two…

what nightstands are you dreaming of?

this weekend we polled the lovely people of urban air market to help us choose our next fragrance. we decided to do this because for one, we couldn’t decide between four samples we had and two, we want our customers to have more say in what they want in a scent for our candles. also, we really don’t want to take the blame for making a decision that disappoints millions…. and so, drum roll please…

now, to explain, that even though we do have a winner, does not necessarily mean we won’t be producing the other fragrances, since we did have a good response to more than just one. keep checking back here for when the winner will be available and if the runners-up will make the cut!

sunday was already a gorgeous day to be outside, so it was a bonus that we got to be in hayes valley for the urban air market. formerly called capsule, we loved this event when we participated in september.

this time we were joined by 130+ local designers and artisans – we had a great time in the sunshine and meeting all of our lovely fans, old and new! here’s a recap of some of our favorites… stay tuned for results from our first ever fragrance poll!

isobell designer melody was a busy lady! she had lots of wonderful trinkets in her booth, and we fell in love with them instantly. they didn’t last long, can you see why?

our beloved ellen from pretty penny had her angelcake jewelry for sale as well. boy were we happy to see another familiar face!

another hayes valley event down. we’ll see you next time urban air market, it’s been a blast!
